My Story
I didn’t start out my career with my sights set on being a sales leader. I really wanted to be a baseball coach, and when my playing career ended after college, I quickly realized that I “couldn’t afford” to be a baseball coach. I had to find a real job, with a real paycheck. Sales was it. That journey took me into leadership, where I took a “random walk of self-discovery” for many years. Like many from my era, I learned on the job
by observing, reading and doing the role, with no formal training. Sometimes I learned from my mistakes, other times I didn’t. I knew something was missing…
It wasn’t until 2010 when I called Jay Tyler for help that my “random walk of self-discovery” came to an end (it was harrowing going to the CEO to tell him that his newly hired SVP of WW Sales wanted budget to bring in a consultant to help with his leadership team). Jay’s work with my leadership team and bringing Leading Sales Excellence into the organization was a game changer. As we grew from $40M to $200M, we were aligned on our values, common goals, rhythm and cadence. We had a North Star. There was no confusion that we had to measure and execute on 4 things: Business Results, Customer and Partner loyalty, Employee Engagement and
Operational Excellence. I finally had the tools to lead in a consistent and purposeful way and have used them ever since.
As the years went on, I really gravitated to the coaching aspect of my role, from managers to individual contributors seeking career development. After 30 years in operational leadership roles, I’m now following my passion, through workshops and one-on-one coaching, to develop leaders that others want to follow. Partnering with Jay to deliver the impactful programs that led my success is a dream come true. I can finally say I found my way to coaching!
